Reposted from LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) — Summers in East Texas bring college and professional football players back to the Piney Woods as they return home for offseason youth camps. This year, Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Broderick Washington Jr., a former Longview Lobo and Texas Tech standout, came back to his hometown on a Friday night for his fourth annual youth football camp at Lobo Stadium. Washington, who is entering his seventh NFL season and has spent all of it with the Ravens, led a free camp for kids ages 5-17, with drills and skills training guided by Washington, several Ravens teammates, Longview coaches, and other local volunteers.
After missing a significant portion of the 2025-26 season due to injury, Washington is healthy again and ready to be a stabilizing force on the Ravens’ defensive line. He cited fellow NFL veteran and former Lobo Trent Williams as a major inspiration for launching this annual gathering and emphasized the importance of giving back to the Longview community. “It means a lot to me. I’ve always tried to follow Trent’s example and model,” Washington said. “Back in school, that was the standard I was chasing. Being able to come back, interact with the kids, and witness the growth of those who have been here year after year is incredibly meaningful. It’s something that fuels me before I head into my own season. It truly means the world to me to be able to do this.”
In addition to the camp, Washington announced a family fun day on Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Boys and Girls Club of Big Pines in Longview. The Ravens’ regular season kicks off for 2026-27 with a Week 1 matchup at the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, September 13, at noon.
