(Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images)Akpoguma celebrated his 31st birthday in April and was a free agent after his contract with Hoffenheim was allowed to run down on June 30.It ends a long spell with the German side that started in 2013, although there were also some loans at Fortuna Dusseldorf and Hanover 96.The experienced defender has 179 Bundesliga appearances under his belt, also scoring three goals with five assists.Born in Germany, he played for them at all the youth levels, but switched his allegiance to Nigeria in October 2020 for the senior squad, so this will be his first club football outside of Germany.It is believed he hopes the regular playing time in Serie A will earn a recall for the Nigeria squad going towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
