​Photo by Stephen Maturen/Getty ImagesNikola Jokic has given the clearest indication yet that he plans to remain with the Denver Nuggets, revealing that he expects to sign a new contract next year.The three-time NBA MVP is potentially in line for a record-breaking five-year extension worth around $360 million if he waits until the 2027 offseason.Jokic could already sign a four-year extension worth roughly $278 million, but choosing to wait would put him in position for the biggest contract in NBA history. If they want me,” Jokic said.The decision to wait is largely a financial one. Jokic could sign the larger five-year deal next summer, potentially taking his career on-court earnings to around $724 million.His long-term commitment to Denver has also been clear. Jokic previously said his “wish is to play in Denver until the end of my career”, while the Nuggets have indicated they want to keep their franchise star around.Jokic is coming off another outstanding regular season, averaging 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists while shooting 56.9 per cent from the field.However, Denver’s 2025-26 campaign ended earlier than expected after a first-round playoff defeat to Minnesota. The Nuggets have since made roster changes aimed at giving Jokic more support during the postseason.For now, the focus is on the upcoming season rather than the contract itself.
