I ran cross country in high school, and the best way I could describe myself is “decent, but injury prone.”I have never pretended to be neutral about the sport. This means that I want you as the reader to weigh the enthusiasm here accordingly. However, the nine freshmen Rutgers added to its 2026 roster make up the most credentialed group the program has brought in, and the Scarlet Knights badly needed it. Rutgers has spent recent Big Ten Championships in the back half of the field, and the distance between what this program signs and what Wisconsin, Michigan State and Washington sign has been the whole story. This class does not close that gap entirely, but it narrows it.The HeadlinersJay Adimala of Colts Neck is the best men’s recruit Rutgers has landed in years. He won the NJSIAA Group 3 championship in 16:10 and owns a 5K personal best of 14:53.00, which ranked 141st nationally. His indoor track resume is stronger still with 8:31.49 for 3000 meters, 9:06.41 for two miles (52nd in the country) and 9:09.07 for 3200 meters (35th). Outdoors he has run 3:58.04 for 1500, 4:11.16 for 1600, 9:08.33 for 3200 and 1:54.74 for 800. He also split 3:07.69 on the 1,200 leg of a Colts Neck distance medley relay that ranked first in the nation in early 2025.Molly Domurat of Flemington arrives as a reigning state champion. The Hunterdon Central graduate won the NJSIAA Group 4 title at Holmdel Park on Nov. 8, crossing in 18:33 and finishing nine seconds clear of the field. Her 5K best of 17:33.50 ranked 256th nationally, but her track marks are the real argument: 10:30.05 for the indoor 3200, good for 38th in the country, and 10:38.10 for two miles, 68th. She has also run 4:31.95 for 1500, 4:53.61 for the mile and 2:18.04 for 800.The Rest of the MenBlake Sealy comes from Manhasset, N.Y., with the fastest half-mile in the class with 1:53.12, 359th nationally. He ran 15:24.20 for 5K last November and has bests of 4:17.77 for 1600, 9:19.30 for 3200, 8:59.88 for 3000 and 4:09.89 for 1500. He also carries a 50.84 quarter and a 5-4 high jump, a range you rarely see in a distance recruit.Peter Simpson of Haddonfield brings the fastest 3200 in the entire class, men’s or women’s: 9:04.97, 259th nationally. The Haddonfield Memorial graduate has also run 4:18.49 for the indoor mile (223rd), 4:14.44 for 1600, 8:49.66 for 3000, 15:33.13 for 5K and 1:55.74 for 800.Gavin Leffler of Wilmington, Del. ran for The Tatnall School, which is as close as Delaware gets to a distance factory, Patrick Castagno has coached there since 2001 and the program claims more than 60 team state championships, and he qualified for the DIAA Meet of Champions. Delaware MileSplit does not carry a public personal-record table for him, so I have no verified marks to publish. The Rest of the WomenDaphne Roskowski of Glen Gardner won the North 2, Group 2 sectional as a junior and finished among the top three there again on Nov. 1, when Voorhees put five scorers in the top six and won the team tit
