Fabrizio Romano indicates that Liverpool may have a late-window movement to watch, with Tottenham’s interest in Cody Gakpo having been confirmed this summer. He notes that Spurs are actively reshaping their squad, already securing deals for Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke, in addition to free transfers for Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka. Tottenham’s target appears to be Cody Gakpo, but Liverpool’s stance on the Netherlands international remains firm. The Reds still believe Gakpo, 27, has a future at Anfield under new manager Andoni Iraola. This is why Romano urges fans to monitor the situation as the transfer window unfolds, as Iraola will want to evaluate his options before permitting any first-team departures.
“Watch Tottenham for Cody Gakpo. They have interest in the player,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “As of today, early July, Liverpool are not opening the door to an exit. They are not telling Gakpo he can leave, nor are they negotiating with Tottenham. The door is closed for now.” He adds that later in the summer, if Tottenham make an official approach, the situation could change, but at this stage it’s not guaranteed.
It’s also worth noting that Liverpool currently have limited winger options, and Gakpo remains a serious option who could cover for Alexander Isak if needed, with Victor Munoz able to play there as well. If Munoz is backing right-wing duties, it’s unlikely Rio Ngumoha will be featured as a regular starter next season.
Liverpool shouldn’t be looking to sell wingers this summer. Some supporters may want to move No. 18 on, especially after a challenging 2025/26 campaign, but Cody Gakpo’s contributions from the previous season deserve recognition.
