Carteret, New Jersey’s St. Peter’s Prep is watching Oluwasemilore Olubobola, their standout offensive tackle, continue his ascent toward the top of the 2027 recruiting cycle. A longtime standout who already holds a prestigious Notre Dame pledge, Olubobola’s stock surged again with the latest Rivals300 rankings released on Monday, where he earned a fresh five-star designation and cracked the list as the No. 20 prospect overall. At 6-foot-6 and about 295 pounds, Olubobola has long been a dominant force on the line of scrimmage and is expected to make an immediate impact when he arrives in South Bend next year. He was one of five offensive linemen in the Rivals300 to receive five-star status in this cycle.
Marketed by Rivals’ coverage, the Notre Dame program under head coach Marcus Freeman has prioritized Olubobola throughout the evaluation process, and the edge in this spring’s recruitment reflected in his rising popularity on the Irish’s favorites list. Olubobola publicly committed to Notre Dame on May 12, emphasizing what drew him to the program. He told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong, “Notre Dame comes with a certain standard and respect because you’re going to be seen by a lot of people. Just the opportunities Notre Dame provides. The connections, the people there, it has a strong culture.” His decision highlighted the academic prestige, the tradition, and the broad network associated with Notre Dame, all of which appealed to him as a young recruit.
In addition to Olubobola, Notre Dame boasted three other five-star pledges in the current Rivals300: defensive lineman David Folorunsho, interior offensive lineman Albert Simien, and EDGE Abraham Sesay. Together, they helped propel Notre Dame’s 2024 class into the national conversation, with the Irish currently ranking No. 2 in Rivals’ Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Texas A&M remains the only program ahead of Notre Dame as the 2027 cycle continues to build toward the football season.
Rivals’ scouting leadership highlighted Olubobola’s attributes and potential. Charles Power, Rivals’ Director of Scouting and Rankings, described him as a big-framed offensive tackle with notable upside and developing physicality. Olubobola arrives with a long frame that features impressive reach, measured at around 6-foot-6 with a 7-foot-1 wingspan before his senior year, and he has continued to fill out his frame through his final high school years. He lines up as the left tackle for St. Peter’s Prep and is known as a violent run blocker who finishes with authority.
Power noted that Olubobola seeks contact, placing his initial impact with length to gain leverage and driving his feet into every engagement. He has shown improvement in pass protection as a junior, displaying quick reactive ability and a sturdier base, alongside noticeable gains in overall technique. While he tends to play high at times, Olubobola has added flexibility to his game, and his late April birthday in the junior year means he still has significant development ahead as a senior prospect. The evaluation suggests he has substantial upside and could be one of the premier offensive linemen in the 2027 cycle.
With Olubobola’s commitment and continued development, Notre Dame’s 2027 class appears poised to be a force on the trenches. His combination of length, power, and technique positions him as an anchor on the offensive line, with the potential to contribute immediately if given the opportunity and to grow into a cornerstone piece for the Irish’s offense in the coming years. For observers and recruits alike, Olubobola’s trajectory serves as a reminder of his elite potential and the continued strength of Notre Dame’s pipeline to high-end offensive line prospects. As the season approaches, expectations will be high for Olubobola to translate his five-star status into on-field impact, leadership, and continued dominance in the college ranks.
