New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh gave Big Blue View his time to contribute to a piece exploring what players and coaches who work with him think about the experience. If you haven’t read it yet, please do. Now, here’s a look at Monday’s Giants headlines.
The Giants’ duo of Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemunor did not crack the top five in the latest assessments. Conor Orr and James Palmer discuss why the New York Giants could host one of the NFL’s most intriguing training camps. They examine the demanding culture Harbaugh is bringing to New York, whether this young Giants roster is ready to embrace it, and how key players like Malik Nabers and Kayvon Thibodeaux fit within the new environment. They also analyze whether the opening week of camp could reveal if the Giants are ready to take the next step or if they’re poised for another disappointing season.
Dart’s sometimes reckless playstyle has led to four blue-tent visits for concussion protocol checks since preseason began. The challenge is to rein in that recklessness while preserving his athleticism and playmaking ability, finding a balanced approach. The Giants won the Harbaugh sweepstakes, and Dart is fortunate to be guided by one of the NFL’s most accomplished active head coaches. The organization invested in the offensive line and pass-catching options this offseason, bringing in assets like Francis Mauigoa and Isaiah Likely to ensure Dart has what he needs to progress.
“This is my third year with Coach Harbs,” Johnson said. “The number one priority on defense, come hell or high water, is to stop the run. That’s what we’re going to teach, preach, and execute. It’s on the walls in our meeting rooms, it’s in most of our team meetings and defensive meetings, it’s in my position meetings. That’s where it begins and ends.”
The Giants surrounded Malik Nabers with a mix of undersized players, journeymen, and what may be past-prime veterans. But if Malachi Fields proves to be the player the team believes he is, their wide receiver corps could actually look quite solid.
