As anticipated, Bayern Munich has extended the contract of young forward Arijon Ibrahimović through 2028, according to a release from FC Bayern. The club plans to integrate the 20-year-old attacker into head coach Vincent Kompany’s first-team squad for the upcoming season after he spent the previous term on loan at 1. FC Heidenheim. Ibrahimović has been with Bayern since 2018 and is now under contract until June 30, 2028. His pre-Bayern experience includes time in Italy with Frosinone Calcio and Lazio before his loan stint at Heidenheim. He will wear the number 22 shirt.
Ibrahimović joined Bayern’s youth ranks from 1. FC Nürnberg at the age of 12. He made a strong impression with the reserve team and debuted for the Bayern first team at 17, in February 2023, against VfL Bochum. Last season, he appeared 34 times for Heidenheim in competitive competitions, contributing two goals and five assists. He has also begun to represent Germany at the international level, making his Germany U21 debut in November and earning two caps so far.
Sporting director Christoph Freund expressed pleasure at securing a long-term asset from the club’s academy, noting that Ibrahimović has progressed steadily through the FC Bayern Campus and through targeted loan spells. Freund highlighted that, particularly during his year at Heidenheim, the player gained valuable personal development that has prepared him for a future with Bayern. He emphasized that Ibrahimović’s journey illustrates the opportunities the club provides for its talents, and that the time has come for him to make his mark not just as a learner but as a contributor to FC Bayern.
Ibrahimović is expected to provide coverage across all four attacking positions. He met with Vincent Kompany before deciding to extend his contract, and reports indicate that Kompany presented a clear plan to ensure the 20-year-old would receive meaningful playing time.
