Fiorentina has officially signed defender Radu Dragusin from Tottenham Hotspur on a loan that includes an option to buy, which could become an obligation for a reported 19 million euros. The arrangement was brokered by Viola director Fabio Paratici, who until February had been working for Spurs. This transaction is structured as a loan with an obligation to convert to a permanent move if certain performance-based criteria are met. Dragusin arrived in Florence yesterday to undergo medical tests and completed the transfer this evening.
The deal marks a return to Serie A for Dragusin, who previously spent time in the Juventus youth system and went on loan to Sampdoria, Salernitana, and Genoa. He was sold to Genoa for around 9.7 million euros in the summer of 2023, and just six months later moved to Tottenham Hotspur for about 28 million euros plus add-ons. A severe knee injury in January 2025—an anterior cruciate ligament tear—kept him out for nearly an entire year. In total, Dragusin made 48 competitive appearances for Spurs, with only about 11 appearances in the previous season and just six of those as a starter.
Now the Romania international is returning to Italy to ply his trade with Fiorentina. The move provides the Florence club with a versatile defender who has experience in both Italian football and the Premier League, as they bolster their defensive options for the upcoming campaigns. Dragusin will look to build his form and showcase the potential that has seen him sought after by teams in Italy and England alike. This loan-to-buy arrangement could secure Dragusin’s long-term future in Tuscany if he meets the agreed criteria, giving Fiorentina a valuable asset at a time when squad depth and defensive reliability are priorities.
