Oklahoma’s 2027 recruiting haul is making waves as Rivals’ updated Rivals300 rankings place several Sooners high, with one commitment reaching five-star status in the most recent update. Gabriel Osborne Jr., a standout cornerback from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has long been viewed as one of the nation’s top defensive backs. As he heads into his senior season, his stock continues to rise, and in the latest Rivals300 he sits at No. 21 overall. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound corner moved up eight spots in the new rankings and is one of four cornerbacks highlighted in the five-star segment of Monday’s update.
During his junior year at Mustang, Osborne tallied 65 total tackles, 10 pass breakups, and two interceptions across 12 games, showcasing his ability to disrupt offenses and make plays in both the passing and running games. With another season ahead, he is expected to be a persistent threat for opposing offenses. The Broncos currently sit as the No. 6 team in Oklahoma in the Rivals Composite Rankings heading into the 2026 season, reflecting the strength of their program and its ability to develop top-tier talent.
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables and the Sooners’ staff secured Osborne’s commitment at the outset of official visit season, which began on June 1. While programs like Alabama, Ohio State, and Miami were among the other heavy contenders pushing for Osborne, OU’s long-standing ties to the local phenom helped tilt the scales in favor of the Sooners. As Osborne explained previously to SoonerScoop.com, he was weighing whether to stay in his hometown or explore opportunities elsewhere, making his decision with his mother. He emphasized his strong local support network and the belief that OU could help him realize substantial growth and success in the future, signaling a clear preference to remain close to home if the right path aligned with his goals.
Osborne is one of three Oklahoma commits who earned five-star status in the latest Rivals300 update, joining offensive tackle Cooper Hackett and tight end Seneca Driver, both also ranked among the top 23 prospects in the 2027 cycle. The Sooners are positioned to secure a top-five class this cycle, according to Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, and Osborne figures to be a central figure in that pursuit through signing day. Rivals’ Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power has described Osborne as a highly gifted cornerback prospect within the 2027 class, noting his size, athleticism, ball skills, and physical demeanor.
Power highlights Osborne’s physical traits, pointing out his height around 6-foot-2 and his weight near 180 pounds, along with the ability to impact plays on both sides of the ball. Osborne has shown comfort in press coverage and an aggressive approach at the line of scrimmage, plus strong makeup speed and the ability to locate the football with elite ball skills. His combination of size, speed, and physicality contributes to his versatility—executing well as a corner and making impact plays when the ball is in the air. His high-end ball skills are evident in his production, including interceptions and pass breakups, and he has demonstrated effectiveness as a return man and a multi-faceted playmaker on offense as well.
In his junior season, Osborne ran through a strong stat line, including two interceptions and 10 pass breakups, along with contributions as a wide receiver and return specialist. This multifaceted production underscores his ceiling as a top recruit and his value to a program looking to build a versatile, playmaking defensive back with the ability to impact multiple phases of the game. As he moves toward signing day, Osborne remains a focal point of Oklahoma’s national-talent strategy, a cornerstone in the push to assemble a premier class within the 2027 cycle.
