​  From one Super Regional team to another, one of the Oregon Ducks’ biggest losses this offseason to the transfer portal is heading to the SEC.Oregon catcher Burke-Lee Mabeus announced on his Instagram on Wednesday that he has committed to Mississippi State out of the transfer portal. He also shared that he has taken his name out of the 2026 MLB Draft pool.With two years of eligibility remaining, Mabeus will immediately insert himself into the conversation at catcher for the Bulldogs. Mississippi State is still waiting to see what last season’s catcher, Kevin Milewski, will do with the MLB draft around the corner.The Bulldogs made it just as far as the Ducks did in the postseason, falling in the Super Regional and being swept by Georgia. However, as expected, the SEC’s top baseball programs can offer more lucrative opportunities, in terms of NIL, competition and scouting exposure, than the Ducks can in the Big Ten. It is expected that fellow Oregon transfers Angel Laya and Naulivou Lauaki Jr. will follow a similar path.Mabeus was a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Award, which is annually presented to the nation’s top catcher. He stood out for his defense, managing the Ducks’ pitching staff brilliantly and controlling the opposing running game, catching 13 baserunners attempting to steal.He also developed as a hitter, finishing his sophomore season with a .286 average with 13 doubles, eight home runs and 31 RBIs this year, while being a workhorse behind the plate. Mabeus was also known to lay down a bunt when he needed to, most notably doing so for a walk-off victory over USC to end the regular season.The Ducks will likely turn to rising sophomore Brayden Jaksa as the catcher of the future if he returns to campus.
