Orioles minor league recap 7/10: Norfolk walks it off in extras

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

Norfolk let a two-run lead slip away but managed to walk it off in the bottom of the tenth. In the top of the frame, Josh Walker kept the Mets from scoring, and Luis Vázquez punched an RBI single to right field to bring in the automatic runner and seal the win for Norfolk.
José Barrero opened the scoring for the Tides with a solo homer in the second inning, and Christian Encarnacion-Strand followed with a three-run blast in the bottom of the third. Despite the late rally, Norfolk managed only five hits across the ten innings. Heston Kjerstad went 1-for-4, and Sam Huff collected a single in each of his four plate appearances.
Christian Herberholz took the ball for Syracuse and limited the Mets to two runs, one earned, over five innings. He allowed two hits, issued three free passes, and struck out one. Dietrich Enns pitched two innings and yielded a run, while Yosver Zulueta allowed a run in the eighth.
Chesapeake’s Evan Yates nearly earned a quality start, but he ended up with the loss after permitting three runs over 5.2 innings. He gave up five hits, walked two, and struck out four. Mikey Ashman allowed two runs and did not retire the full inning.
On the offensive side for the Baysox, Douglas Hodo III provided an early spark with a solo homer in the top of the first. Aron Estrada contributed a productive day at the plate by doubling, drawing a walk, and scoring a run. Frederick Bencosme earned two free passes, and Thomas Sosa delivered a pinch-hit single in his lone at-bat.
The game was postponed due to inclement weather and will now be made up on July 11. In addition, there were previous weather-related postponements that pushed the schedule, with a makeup on July 10 in place for another contest. Box scores reflect Norfolk versus Syracuse with a 6:35 p.m. start time for the former, featuring starter Trace Bright (0-6, 7.25 ERA). Chesapeake was scheduled to visit Akron at 7:17 p.m., with starter Sebastian Gongora (7-3, 3.18 ERA) on the hill. Frederick hosted Jersey Shore at 7:00 p.m., with Boston Bateman (3-3, 3.82 ERA) starting, and Delmarva was set for a doubleheader against Kannapolis, with Stephen Still (1-3, 6.32 ERA) on the mound for Game 1 and a TBD starter for Game 2.
