Oxford’s Prelec departs after less than two years

Oxford United have confirmed the departures of forwards Ole Romeny and Nik Prelec. Romeny, who joined the club in early 2025 for what was then a club-record fee, has moved to Fortuna Sittard in the Netherlands on a loan deal with an option to buy. The Dutch winger spent the season with the U’s, making 32 appearances and scoring once, a goal that came in a 3-2 loss to Coventry City.
Prelec has also left the club, heading to Polish side Jagiellonia Białystok for an undisclosed fee after Oxford activated the option to sign him on a permanent basis in February of the previous season. The 25-year-old had joined Oxford on loan in the summer of 2025 before the club decided to make the move permanent, and he went on to feature 25 times for Oxford, scoring once.
In other news, Oxford United’s ability to add to their squad this summer appears limited as the club is under a transfer embargo imposed by the English Football League on Thursday. The club has indicated that they aim to have the embargo lifted by the January transfer window and that their priority remains maintaining the current group of players this summer.
