​Indiana Pacers forward Obi Toppin will be the honorary pace car driver for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.Toppin will drive a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Coupe 3LT and lead the field around the 2.5-mile oval to start the race. The car produces 495 horsepower and reaches 60 mph in 2.9 seconds.”Basketball and motorsports – Pacers and racers – go hand in hand in Indianapolis,” INDYCAR and IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “Obi joins us to pace the field as NASCAR’s biggest stars compete to win the In-Season Challenge and add their name to the history books with a win at the Brickyard.”The 160-lap race is the final round of the five-race NASCAR In-Season Challenge. Ryan Blaney and Todd Gilliland are the remaining drivers in the bracket, and the one who finishes higher on Sunday will win the $1 million prize.Blaney, the No. 3 seed for Team Penske, ranks third in the Cup Series with two wins, four top-five finishes, and 15 top-10s across 21 races. Sunday is the 400th Cup start of his career. Gilliland, the No. 25 seed, drives for Front Row Motorsports and eliminated Daniel Suarez, Carson Hocevar, Alex Bowman, and Chase Elliott to reach the final. The 2026 bracket was ranked based on Cup Series points following the June 14 race at Pocono Raceway. Ty Gibbs was the winner of last year’s first tournament.Bubba Wallace won the 2025 Brickyard 400. Kyle Larson won in 2024.The New York Knicks drafted Toppin eighth overall in 2020 and he won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2022. Indiana acquired him in July 2023 for two future second-round picks. He played on the teams that reached the Eastern Conference finals in 2024 and the NBA Finals in 2025.Last season, Toppin averaged 11.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, with a 50.3% shooting percentage. During his three seasons with Indiana, he posted averages of 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, shooting 54%. In 2024, he signed a four-year, $58 million contract that extends through the 2027-28 season, with a $15 million salary set for 2026-27.The Pacers finished their 2025-26 campaign with a 19-63 record without Tyrese Haliburton, who tore his right Achilles tendon in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals and was sidelined for the entire year. He has made significant progress in his recovery ahead of the 2026-27 season. Toppin played two seasons at Dayton. As a sophomore in 2019-20 he was Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and national player of the year according to the Associated Press, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. He also won the John Wooden Award, the Oscar Robertson Award, and the Naismith Trophy, and was a unanimous first-team All-American.The Brickyard 400 is set for 2 p.m. ET on Sunday and will air on TNT Sports.
