The Padres could still make it into the postseason, as their 49-51 record has them just 2.5 games out of a playoff spot, but it doesn’t seem like the team has it in them this year.San Diego is weighing all of its options, including the possibility of a trade involving All-Star closer Mason Miller, who has three years of club control and would net an insane haul – similar if not better than the one the Padres gave up to acquire him last trade deadline.If Miller is on the table, anybody could go in the right deal (except for the big three that have a no-trade clause, meaning they would have to waive it to be moved), but it’s more likely that veterans on expiring deals will be moved if San Diego decides to become sellers.Players like platoon first baseman Ty France, who has been excellent in his role for the Padres and is on a one-year, $1.35 million deal will most likely be dealt to a contender in the coming days.France is one of 10 players that are on a tear right now and raising their trade value according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.“Since June 19, the 32-year-old has eight home runs, 20 RBIs and a 1.138 OPS in 22 games, doing his part to keep the Padres in the NL Wild Card race,” Feinsand wrote Tuesday.France is up to 14 home runs and 50 RBI while slashing .279/.337/.550 (.887 OPS) through 74 games, accumulating 2.4 WAR. Considering how cheap his contract is, many teams should be seeking to add his bat against left-handed pitching, but he’s been great against righties as well.The Padres probably won’t get much of a haul for the 32-year-old’s services, but they took a flier on him and the return has been outstanding. Unless the team figures something out over their final 12 games leading up to the deadline, France could be playing in another team’s uniform soon.
