At this point in the offseason, virtually all the best free agents have been signed. NFL teams still looking for help may have to wait until the end of August, when rosters get trimmed down from 90 players to 53.The only way to really upgrade at a position of need this time of year is by getting creative with trade ideas. On that note, Bleacher Report has an interesting scenario for a three-team deal involving the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears and the Arizona Cardinals. Kristopher Knox proposes that the Bears land defensive end Josh Sweat from the Cardinals, the Panthers get tight end Cole Kmet from the Bears and Arizona gets two fourth-round draft picks.Knox writes:With Trey McBride already in the fold, though, the Cardinals don’t need a pass-catching tight end. However, the Carolina Panthers do. Tommy Tremble led all Panthers tight ends with just 249 receiving yards last season. In this deal, the Panthers add a quality pass-catcher while chipping in draft compensation to help the Bears get Sweat to Chicago. While seemingly content with their tight end room, the Panthers have lacked receiving production at the position for quite some time—and this seems like a fair compromise all around.Carolina certainly won’t find a better option on the free agent market—where Darren Waller and Jonnu Smith are the only remaining options worth considering. Both are also over 30 years old.Meanwhile, Kmet is still just 27—despite having appeared in 100 career regular-season games already. Kmet’s production as a receiver may not jump off the page and scream at you, but he’d have virtually no competition to speak of for those reps from the current crop of tight ends on Carolina’s roster.Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content. This article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Panthers acquire TE in 3-team trade proposal involving Bears, Cards Read More
