Narduzzi has had his ups and downs with the programs, with six seasons of at least eight wins and just three seasons with at least seven losses, but his consistency stands out in a chaotic era of college football.Despite this being a moment for him to celebrate, Narduzzi wanted to talk about his players and what this win means for the program.”We’ve been better at stopping the run. … We’re okay right now. We still got a lot of work to do. We need to get better.”Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi joins SportsCenter following their win vs. Syracuse 🏈 pic.twitter.com/UgFH8zj8Pq— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) September 18, 2026The win over Syracuse means the Panthers are now 3-0, and the Panthers have their eyes on making a run in the ACC. On this night, though, the team was able to honor Narduzzi for his milestone. Here’s a look at Narduzzi’s new Pitt record.Longest tenured Pitt coachNarduzzi coached his 144th game on Thursday night, making him the longest-tenured head coach in Pittsburgh football history. Narduzzi passed Jock Sutherland, who coached the Panthers in 144 games from 1924 to 1938.After the game, when asked about the milestone, Narduzzi referenced his dad and mentioned how much he enjoys being the Pitt head coach.”My dad was big on loyalty. I guess I inherit that from him,” Narduzzi said. “That’s what it comes down to, is being loyal. I came here in 2015 to coach at Pitt and I had no intentions of ever leaving. I’ve had opportunities to leave, I’ve stayed. It’s because I love being here.”Head coach Pat Narduzzi reflects on time at #Pitt, his father, team while passing Jock Sutherland in all-time games coached pic.twitter.com/TAstQmOfsy— 93.7 The Fan (@937theFan) September 18, 2026Despite coaching a similar amount of games, Sutherland still has 28-more wins than Narduzzi, who has an 83-61 record in his time as the Pitt head coach. However, both Sutherland and Narduzzi are the only Pitt head coaches with more than 60 wins, which comes in part due to the longevity.Sutherland is considered Pitt’s greatest coach, as he made the College Football Hall of Fame after producing a winning percentage of .818 in his career with he program. While Narduzzi hasn’t found as much success as Sutherland, he still has paved his own way with the Panthers.
