​The Penn State Nittany Lions were able to start the Matt Campbell era off on a high note, with a 45-0 win over Marshall.From the opening kickoff, the Nittany Lions were focused, ready to make a statement in front of their rowdy fans. Beaver Stadium was rocking throughout the game, showing why it’s one of the best venues in all of college football.Like Campbell, there were plenty of players and staff who came to Penn State from Iowa State. This meant that Satruda’s win was their first experience in Beaver Stadium, and the fans didn’t let them down.Multiple players were amazed by the environment, showing excitement all around. Beaver Stadium has been known to be one of the loudest in college football, and according to players, it lived up to the hype.Senior linebacker Kooper Elbel, who transferred from Iowa State, gave his thoughts on the stadium and being part of the Nittany Lions program.“There’s no better feeling. That’s why I play football. That’s why a lot of us play football, is for moments like that. 108,000, I think they said, was at the stadium today. Those guys, they got our back. They’re cheering loud, and we’re super excited and fortunate to have them,” Ebel said.Additionally, quarterback Alex Manske made his debut at Beaver Stadium after coming over from Iowa State. Manske completed 6-of-8 passes for 57 yards in his debut after starrer Rocco Becht came out of the game.Manske had open-heart surgery this offseason, but he’s back ready to go. And there is strong belief that he will be the starter for this team moving forward after the season.“It was a little emotional. I think it was really rewarding after going through everything. It was really fun just to be back out there and playing football again,” Manske said.All in all, it was a great start for Penn State this season. Both sides of the ball were clicking well, giving the Nittany Lions a perfect start to the year.Campbell understands that there is a lot of work to still do, but this was a good beginning to the new era of this program. The veteran head coach has put a lot of time into this program in a limited time, and it was awesome to see that turn out to a win on the field. Penn State will play its second game of the season against Temple on the road. If the Nittany Lions can take care of business, a 2-0 start is well within their grasp.
