Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is the most high-profile player in the WNBA and the face of the league. But according to one ESPN writer, just because she’s famous doesn’t mean she’s well-liked.During an appearance on “The Right Time With Bomani Jones” on Tuesday, ESPN writer Howard Bryant spoke about Clark’s massive fame and what appears to be some discontent and animosity between her and some of the other players in the WNBA. However, unlike some commentators, Bryant doesn’t think that has anything to do with her race and everything to do with the way Clark plays on the court.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSince Clark entered the league back in 2024, it’s become obvious that some players throughout the league simply do not like her. While some may point to the fact that she is a straight white woman in an LGBTQ-friendly league that has historically been dominated by Black women, Bryant does not think that’s the reason why Clark is disliked.During his recent conversation with Bomani Jones, Bryant claimed that Clark is simply “not a particularly likable player” as a result of her behavior on the court.“I argue that this is not a racial question. I think people don’t like her. … It’s almost like a bit of hocus-pocus, right? She’s a popular player but not a particularly likeable player because of her on-court behavior, right? Like, how are you gonna go out there and make a whole bunch of threes and stick your tongue out and get up in people’s faces and then cry about every trip down court?” Bryant told Jones.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“You’re either in it, or you’re not in it, right? I mean, can you have it both ways? Can you look and scream at the ref, ‘That’s a foul,’ every time you have the ball? Right? And then when you make a shot, (you’re) mean-mugging in somebody’s face and not handle it. Are you tough or are you not tough? Which one is it?”Bryant does acknowledge that Clark might not be well-liked throughout the league, but he pushed back against the idea that WNBA players are intentionally targeting her.“Let’s not forget the number of black men and you know, some of them being ex-NBA players, who really did place (it) on her (and say), ‘Oh my god, if you breathe on her you’re fumbling the bag,’ right?” Bryant said on Bomani Jones’ show. “This whole idea that these black women were actively trying to destroy not just her [Clark] but the league’s financial future. I mean, she’s not in bubble wrap. … Like you go out and play.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementRegardless of what the players throughout the league think about her, she is undoubtedly the most high-profile face in the league right now and will continue to be the league’s biggest star for years to come. The post ‘People don’t like her’: ESPN writer says Caitlin Clark is ‘not a likable player’ appeared first on The Comeback: Today’s Top Sports Stories & Reaction
