Petoskey, Harbor soccer play for bragging rights across the bay Friday night

PETOSKEY — The Petoskey football team will be on the road in Escanaba Friday night, but any fans left around town might notice a glow and a few roars from Northmen Stadium. For the first time since 2016, the Petoskey and Harbor Springs boys soccer teams will meet up in a 6 p.m., Friday match at Northmen Stadium. While the two programs have been as consistent on the pitch as anyone over the last decade in northern Michigan, the schedules have not aligned since that 2016 meeting, which came as a 7-1 Northmen victory. This season, both teams have put six wins on the schedule so far, with Petoskey heading in at 6-5 and Harbor Springs compiling a 6-4-3 record so far. Both records are a bit deceiving, however. The season for each program began in the Boyne Mountain Invitational, which featured a number of defending state champions and state contenders across each division. Since Boyne Mountain, Petoskey has gone 5-2, while the Rams have put together a 5-1-1 stretch since. TOP PERFORMERS: Harbor Springs soccer rolling once again, volleyball players hit milestonesHarbor picked up wins over Cheboygan and Charlevoix this week, with the latter coming in a 2-0 final on Thursday in Charlevoix. ANDY PLACE RELAYS: Andy Place Co-Ed Relays brings out true team aspect for area squadsWEEK 4 FOOTBALL PICKS: Week 3 brought a clearer picture, we’ll see if I learned anything | KochannyFreshman Ernie Cameron and sophomore Landon Baas each scored for the Rams, with Turner Schultz notching the shutout victory in goal, his sixth blanking of the season.Petoskey also had a busy week, taking a 3-0 loss against Traverse City Central, before a 3-2 win over Alpena on Thursday night. CHARLEVOIX’S SYTSMA-REED: Charlevoix’s Ric Sytsma-Reed playing his way to well-deserved nicknameWhile the winner of Friday’s match at Northmen Stadium won’t get anything more than another notch in the win column of the schedule, there will certainly be some bragging rights for either side of the bay.Whether or not those bragging rights last another 10 years is a question yet to be answered.  Reach Sports Editor Drew Kochanny at dkochanny@petoskeynews.com and follow him on X @DrewKochanny and Instagram @drewkochannyThis article originally appeared on The Petoskey News-Review: Petoskey, Harbor soccer play for bragging rights across the bay Friday night
