Ideally, such a player would slot right into the outfield somewhere.There are some options for the Phillies to consider, with Taylor Ward and Jo Adell more realistic options. Mike Trout would be a fun outcome, but he’s not realistic. However, the best possible option would be Byron Buxton.But with a no-trade clause, it’s going to be tough to trade for him. However, according to Jim Salisbury on The Phillies Show, the Minnesota Twins outfielder apparently told a Phillies player he’d waive his no-trade clause to come to Philadelphia.Phillies have hope for a Byron Buxton trade once again”He apparently told a Phillies player last summer he would waive it to come here,” Salisbury said. “That’s what a Phillies player told me in the last month or so.”This update from Salisbury is a massive one, if true. There would not be a better trade option this summer for the Phillies than Buxton.He’s a 32-year-old right-handed hitting outfielder signed through the 2028 season on a seven-year, $100 million contract. Most importantly, he’s been an elite hitter and fielder over the last two seasons.Buxton is hitting .274 with an .899 OPS this season and a 146 OPS+. He’s a right-handed hitter and would be the dream pickup for the Phillies this summer.But the Twins superstar outfielder has mentioned previously that he doesn’t plan to waive his no-trade clause. Of course, there’s still a lot standing in the way of a deal.The Twins are just 2.5 games out of the Wild Card in the AL, and might not actually sell this summer. Even if they do, there’s little incentive to move Buxton.The price of such a trade is going to be massive for the Phillies as well, further complicating a trade for Buxton.However, if Dave Dombrowski and company are willing to spend a fortune to get Buxton, and the Twins are a bit more open to a trade, then Buxton, according to what a Phillies player told Salisbury, would be willing to waive his no-trade clause.While there are a lot of hurdles to clear for a trade, this update gives Phillies fans some hope that the dream trade deadline pickup could actually happen.
