Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber joins teammate Bryce Harper in Home Run Derby

Veteran slugger Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies is the latest participant announced for the Home Run Derby in Philadelphia on Monday night. Schwarber will join his Phillies teammate Bryce Harper in an eight-man field, and the two stars are set to entertain the home crowd at Citizens Bank Park as they chase additional glory in front of their fans. Also in the lineup are a mix of notable sluggers from across the league: Willson Contreras of the Boston Red Sox, Jac Caglianone of the Kansas City Royals, Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays, Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals, and Ben Rice of the New York Yankees. An additional participant has not yet been revealed, leaving one more spot open in the eight-man bracket.
The 33-year-old Schwarber enters Friday’s games with an impressive 32 homers, a figure that leads Major League Baseball at this point in the season. Over the past several seasons, the four-time All-Star has established himself as one of baseball’s premier power hitters, with 219 home runs since 2022, a total that places him just behind Aaron Judge (227) for the most long balls in that span. Schwarber’s climb to the top of the home run charts has been steady and sustained, reinforcing his reputation as a premiere power threat in the sport.
This marks Schwarber’s third appearance in the Home Run Derby. He first captured attention by reaching the finals in 2018, where he ultimately fell to Bryce Harper at Nationals Park in a memorable showdown between two Phillies teammates. Schwarber returned to the Derby in 2022, though his run was cut short when he was defeated in the first round by Albert Pujols. His experience in high-profile power showdowns adds an extra layer of anticipation for fans who are eager to see the Phillies slugger showcase his approach, timing, and raw power on baseball’s biggest stage.
With the Derby returning to Philadelphia, Schwarber’s inclusion adds local star power and a storied playoff-caliber hitter to the festivities. Phillies fans are hopeful that he can translate his summer power into another dazzling round at the plate, while opponents across the league brace for one of the sport’s most dangerous home run hitters when he steps into the batter’s box on Derby night. The event promises a mix of elite power, creative launches, and dramatic moments as Schwarber and the other participants attempt to outslug one another in front of a raucous home crowd at Citizens Bank Park.
