Whatever you call him, every baseball team needs that person at the top of the pitching staff you hand the ball to and confidently expect him to bring you back a win that day.That’s what Danny Kenney was to the Plymouth North baseball team this year and also the leading reason that voters chose him as the Old Colony Memorial’s MVP for the spring season. Kenney was the landslide winner of the poll, garnering 86.21 percent of the 6,903 votes.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementKenney’s fellow Plymouth North Class of 2026 graduate Logan Perry finished in second place with 9.3 percent of the votes. Eleven other candidates split the remaining votes.Kenney played a role in Plymouth North’s 2024 Division 2 state championship team as a sophomore. He stepped into a bigger spotlight with the team in 2025 when he topped a pitching staff that led the Blue Eagles to the Div. 2 state semifinals.Everything had to be turned up a notch this spring when Plymouth North moved up a level. They transitioned from one of the largest schools in Division 2 to one of the smallest in all of Division 1. He put together a 6-1 record with a 0.30 earned run average, surrendering only five earned runs over the entire season. He hit .302 with two doubles, a triple, two homers, and 12 RBI. He is playing in the Cranberry League this summer, pitching once a week for the Scituate Strypers alongside former Plymouth North teammates Jake Novak and Matt Nardone.More: Year in and year out, the Jen Kane Memorial Softball Tourney delivers“I wanted to spend the summer getting ready for college by increasing my workouts to get stronger and pitch against some strong competition,” explained Kenney. “The league is filled with college kids looking for a way to stay in shape for fall ball.”The left-hander’s fastball tops out at around 85 miles per hour. He wants to add an additional couple MPHs as he heads off to play fall ball at Salve Regina University, a Division III baseball program coming off a 40-8 season that included a best-of-three series loss to Endicott College in the Super Regionals for the Div.
