Portland Fire guard Carla Leite is quickly establishing herself as one of the WNBA’s most promising young talents, and before Thursday night’s matchup with the Las Vegas Aces, she reminded fans that her fashion game is drawing plenty of attention as well. The Sporting News notes Leite’s growing prominence in the league, and fans were treated to a pregame look that highlighted her toned abs and stylish ensemble, a moment that quickly circulated across social media. The attention comes as Leite continues to carve out a role on an expanding franchise that is counting on her as a cornerstone moving forward.
Leite, just 22, has emerged as a key player for the Fire during the franchise’s inaugural season. Through the first portion of the campaign, she has averaged 15.3 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor and an impressive 40 percent from beyond the arc. Those numbers place her among the WNBA’s top young guards and have helped Portland stay competitive as they establish themselves in the league.
In the showdown with Las Vegas, Leite led Portland with 13 points, added five assists, and pulled down three rebounds. She shot just 2-for-6 from the field, but she repeatedly attacked the basket and converted 9 of her 11 free-throw attempts, keeping the Fire within striking distance late in the game. Her ability to create offense has been one of the franchise’s brightest bright spots throughout the season, highlighting her potential to be a transformative player for Portland.
Leite’s path to the WNBA has been unconventional and storied. Born in Poissy, France, she developed through the country’s basketball system before starring for Tarbes and later Villeneuve d’Ascq. She earned Finals MVP honors during the 2025 EuroCup Women championship run, averaging more than 20 points per game in the title series and establishing herself as one of Europe’s elite young guards.
Her professional journey began when she was selected ninth overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2024 WNBA Draft, though she spent time abroad before making her WNBA debut with the Golden State Valkyries in 2025 after being chosen in the expansion draft. With the league expanding again ahead of the 2026 season, Portland claimed Leite in the expansion draft, bringing in a versatile and talented playmaker to help anchor the Fire’s rebuilding process.
That offseason decision is already bearing fruit. Even in Thursday’s loss to the defending champions, Leite’s presence underscored the optimism surrounding Portland’s young roster. Over her recent stretch of games, she has been a consistent offensive contributor, reinforcing the belief that she can be a central piece for Portland as they continue to develop and compete in the league.
