​PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland Fire President Claire Hamill is weighing in on a funding decision revolving around upgrading the 30-year-old Moda Center.The WNBA team’s home games are held at the Moda Center, but Hamill says the facility needs to be modernized to meet the players’ needs — key for building a winning team.“Current locker rooms, as we call them the dressing rooms, training facilities, medical facilities and player amenities, were not built to support a second growing franchise, let alone a women’s team competing for talent,” Hamill said in a testimony to the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners this week.She is encouraging the board to approve $101 million for building upgrades, alongside millions from the city and the state.The Portland Trail Blazers also have a stake in the Moda Center, as it is a requirement by the Blazers’ new team owner that the facility be upgraded or they may move to a different city.Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
