(WMBD/WYZZ) — The Morton Potters are sending a pretty clear message.They will be contenders for the Mid-Illini Conference title.Sage Lelm scored 17 touchdowns 17 seconds apart in helping Morton beat previously undefeated Dunlap, 43-21, on Friday night. The Potters (4-1, 3-0) beat three-time defending conference champ Washington last week and now sit atop the conference standings with Pekin (4-1, 3-0).Lelm scored on a long TD run in the first quarter and on the next series, stripped the ball from a Dunlap runner and took it back for score. He added a third TD in the first half as Morton ran out to a 37-7 lead on the Eagles (4-1, 2-1) before halftime.In other games in the Mid-Illini, Pekin beat visiting Washington, 36-19, to stayed tied with Morton for the conference lead. Metamora beat Limestone, 49-0, and East Peoria defeated Canton in overtime, 26-20, in the other Mid-Illini games Friday.Other winners included Normal West, Normal Community, Bloomington, El Paso-Gridley, Heyworth, Tremont, Central Catholic, Prairie Central, Farmington, Stark County, Princeville, South Fulton, Olympia and Peoria Heights.
