Could ‘The Process’ era be coming to a close for the Philadelphia 76ers?After the blockbuster trade for All-NBA wing Jaylen Brown, the Sixers could come to a conclusion that there are simply too many mouths to feed on the roster. If the front office does determine that to be true, Joel Embiid is likely viewed as the odd man out due to his extensive history of injuries.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFanSided proposed a major trade between the 76ers and Brooklyn Nets that would look as follows:76ers receive: Michael Porter Jr., Terance MannNets receive: Joel Embiid, 2033 unprotected first-round pick, 2029 first-round pick (via LAC)To put it plainly, this is a terrible idea for the 76ers.If Philadelphia moves Embiid, it needs a big man in return.Without the 2023 MVP in the mix, Adem Bona and Ariel Hukporti would be left to hold down the center position. Neither is capable of doing so at the current stages of their career. Both are age 24 or younger and have never served as a starting center in the NBA.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThat is not the only reason this move does not make sense for the Sixers.Giving up two valuable draft picks just to get off Embiid’s three-year, $187 million contract would be a foolish decision by the new-look front office led by Mike Gansey. The team is much better off simply sticking with one of the NBA’s most talented centers even if he’s not available on a regular basis.Sure, Porter Jr. is an NBA champion entering the final season of a five-year, $179 million contract, but that is the only upside to this deal for Philadelphia. His fit with the 76ers makes little sense from a style of play and positional standpoint.Brooklyn can afford to take on Embiid’s lucrative deal while it’s rebuilding, so it’s understandable why the Nets would agree to this scenario. They are gaining two promising first-rounders while adding a player who can help them stay competitive under the new draft lottery rules.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe temptation to cut ties with Embiid exists, but this is not the way for the 76ers to make it happen.Join The 76ersRoundtableHead over to the 76ersRoundtable page and hit the “Join” button at the top of the page… it’s completely FREE!
