Set to leave PSG and close to signing with Atletico Madrid, Lee Kang-in could have made a very different career choice this summer by accepting a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.PSG has already sold Goncalo Ramos to AC Milan for more than €60 million this summer, with some sources reporting the fee reached between €70 million and €74 million before bonuses. The club’s next major sale will involve Lee Kang-in, who is close to signing a five-year contract with Atletico Madrid.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAccording to various sources, the two clubs reached an agreement last week. Spanish reports estimate the transfer fee at €35 million plus €5 million in bonuses, while French sources value the deal at more than €40 million, with or without bonuses depending on the report.According to the South Korean press, bureaucratic details are delaying the official announcement of Lee Kang-in’s transfer. The midfielder is currently on vacation after South Korea’s early elimination from the 2026 World Cup on June 25. In recent hours, South Korean media also reported on a post from the Dorimdong Study Center, a local medical school, which recently hosted Jose Maria Villalon, Atletico Madrid’s doctor for more than 30 years. In an Instagram post about the Spanish doctor’s visit, the medical school’s account said Villalon took advantage of his trip to South Korea to conduct a medical examination for Lee Kang-in. While this may not have been the player’s final medical, it further confirms that the left-footed midfielder is very close to leaving PSG for the Madrid club.Ruben Uria, a journalist who specializes in Atletico Madrid, revealed in recent days that Lee Kang-in turned down a massive offer this summer to join the Spanish club. According to Uria, a Saudi Arabian club offered Lee €17 million net per season on a five-year contract, worth a total of €85 million.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIt was a huge contract, one he did not have at PSG and will not receive at Atletico Madrid, but it was not enough to convince the 25-year-old South Korea international. The Spanish journalist did not specify how much the unidentified Saudi club had offered PSG, but Lee chose to return to LaLiga, a move expected to become official soon.Elsewhere, defender Emmanuel Mbemba, who was reported to be close to joining AS Monaco a few weeks ago, will instead leave the club for neighboring Paris FC.Used sparingly in the UEFA Youth League this season, playing only 14 minutes, Mbemba played a major role in PSG’s National U19 Championship and Coupe Gambardella double, serving as captain in the finals of both competitions. In recent weeks, he had been linked with AS Monaco, which had already signed young PSG midfielder Aymen Assab this summer.
