QB Joe Flacco stars in ‘Quarterback,’ highlights Browns’ 2025 disaster

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco is at the center of attention for Netflix’s newest season of Quarterback, which aired on Tuesday. It feels like a lifetime ago that Joe Flacco took the field for the Browns to begin the 2025 season, and it was a complete and total unmitigated disaster. It was the first time that many fans believed that the Joe Flacco magic had run out. That was, of course, until he threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns in his very first game with the Bengals.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBefore then, his second stint in Cleveland should have been filled with so much promise, but it was highlighted by the Browns making mistake after mistake.Flacco said that he signed in Cleveland for the second time with the understanding that they would likely take a quarterback in the draft. What he didn’t know, and what no one really understood, was when the Browns took two quarterbacks. They selected Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round. This meant that they opened Training Camp with four quarterbacks competing for one job: Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAs many Browns fans came to learn, a four-man quarterback competition is not a real thing. There are not enough reps in an NFL practice for anyone to get meaningful action, and we all saw the result of it.After Pickett’s injury, it was Flacco’s job to lose, and the Browns went with him, but it simply never clicked.Netflix skipped the Browns’ Week One game against the Bengals when the Browns lost by 1 after Andre Szmyt’s missed field goal and missed extra point. Week two was Flacco’s first game back in Baltimore. It was a horrible day to be a Cleveland Brown as Flacco threw one touchdown that should have been intercepted as the Browns got thumped, 41-17.Flacco only got two more starts for the Browns before he was shipped to Cincinnati as the Bengals tried to navigate a Joe Burrow injury. What Cleveland fans thought was stealing a fifth-round pick from the Bengals when they traded for Flacco actually turned out to be the first time many turned on Kevin Stefanski.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFlacco looked like a grade school quarterback who couldn’t complete a pass to an MVP candidate down in Cincinnati. He had games of 219, 342, 223, and 470 yards for the Bengals when he couldn’t even clear 200 yards in Cleveland. It was a very unfortunate and sad thing to watch for Browns fans who thought they could get the 2023 version of Flacco. Instead, they got a guy who had an unfair Training Camp and was put into a system that was never going to work. The result was a disaster and a trade to Cleveland’s division rival, where he flipped the switch and kept the Bengals alive. This article originally appeared on Browns Wire: QB Joe Flacco stars in ‘Quarterback,’ highlights Browns’ 2025 disaster
