Raiders’ Pairing Of TE Bowers, HC Kubiak May Be Legendary

The state of the Las Vegas Raiders organization the day the 2025 National Football League season ended and today is vastly different in the best way possible. The Raiders, which went just 3-14 last season, enjoyed a great free agency and draft after hiring Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator and Super Bowl champion Klint Kubiak to be the next head coach of the franchise, a pairing that should pay dividends for both parties involved.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementKubiak is one of the brightest offensive minds in the NFL and gets to work with a talented offense that includes the 2025 Heisman Trophy and national championship-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza, former first-round running back Ashton Jeanty and All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers. What he will do with Mendoza (and/or veteran QB Kirk Cousins) and Jeanty will be fun to watch as they develop into premier players, but Bowers is already a premier player. In fact, Bowers has been voted as the best tight end in the league by his peers for the second straight year.Even after missing five games and Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride setting a record for most receptions by a tight end in a single season (126), Bowers earned the nod for best at his position. Now imagine Bowers with one of the most creative play-callers and better QB play – that’s a scary sight for opposing teams. Bowers usually draws the most targets in the passing game, and for good reason, but he’s going to see even more targets with Kubiak at the helm.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementESPN’s Ben Solak can’t wait to see the Kubiak-Bowers pairing, as Bowers is a unicorn and can do anything and everything in an offense.Kubiak force fed star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, so much so that he accounted for 44.1 percent of Seattle’s receiving yards and 35.9 percent of targets, per Solak. That kind of usage rate with Bowers will be a nightmare for whoever is lining up opposite of him in coverage.“We’re in an era of football in which targets are centralized more easily than ever before, and JSN was a perfect candidate to fill that Atlas role, given his versatility of alignments and complete route tree,” wrote Solak.“Bowers can also line up everywhere and run every route. He’s a dangerous screen option given his tackle-breaking ability. He’s a downfield threat given his strength adjusting to the football. He can’t stretch the field as well as Smith-Njigba, but in a play-action heavy offense, he can still get a solid menu of shot plays from tight end alignments.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementLas Vegas didn’t do much to improve the receiving room, making Bowers the clear favorite to lead the team in targets by far. He is primed for an excellent campaign and Solak even predicted that Bowers will win Offensive Player of the Year if his usage is as high as he believes it will be.
