Wide receiver is always one of the most fascinating positions on the Los Angeles Rams’ roster. Typically, the Rams are rich with talent from top to bottom, but this year, there are some question marks after Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. They have a collection of young players who are relatively unproven, and they’ll all be competing to win the WR3 job. The Rams’ tight end utilization makes it less urgent to have a high-end WR3, but it’s still a position that needs to be sorted out.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHeading into training camp, it’s one of the more intriguing position battles on the roster. And given the injury histories of Nacua and Adams, the Rams need someone who can play significant snaps.Puka NacuaDavante AdamsIt’s hard to imagine Whittington or Mumpfield being cut this summer. Nacua and Adams are obviously locks and will be the top two receivers, but Whittington and Mumpfield might have the best chance to back them up as the No. 3 receiver.Whittington, in particular, could feature in a variety of ways because of his physicality and skills as a ball-carrier. Mumpfield, meanwhile, is more of a true wide receiver who runs good routes and gets open. He just needs to be better at the catch point.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementCJ DanielsBoth Daniels and Smith should make the team, but they can’t be considered locks. Daniels is a sixth-round rookie with a lot of promise, but he needs to earn his roster spot first. Smith contributed a bunch on offense last season in addition to being the return specialist, but after a shaky year on special teams, he’ll need to win the job as the primary returner. All four of these players should be considered long shots to make the team. The Rams simply have too much depth and talent ahead of them. They don’t need more than six wide receivers, making these four young receivers almost expendable.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThey’re all former undrafted free agents who have spent time on the practice squad, which is where some of them will end up again this season.WR3: Whittington vs. Mumpfield vs. Daniels vs. SmithThis will be one of the best position battles of camp. After letting Tutu Atwell walk in free agency, the Rams don’t have a clear-cut WR3 behind Nacua and Adams. Considering how often they run 11 personnel, they need to fill that void. It could be a committee that works in the No. 3 receiver spot, with all four of the players above contributing, but in an ideal world, one player will pull ahead of the rest. They’re all very different players, too. Whittington is the hard-nosed runner who’s more of a gadget player, Mumpfield is a terrific route runner who doesn’t do much after the catch, Daniels is strong in contested-catch situations and Smith is the speedster.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementTheir varying skill sets do give the coaching staff a lot of options, but we’ll see who emerges in camp.CJ DanielsMumpfield was a pleasant surprise in practice last summer and i
