The Rams and 49ers are longtime NFC West rivals, and this year’s opener doubles as a history-making trip 15 time zones away from SoFi Stadium. Sean McVay’s team is taking a distinctly different approach than San Francisco to the travel, opting to fly into Melbourne just one day before kickoff and depart immediately after the final whistle. The Rams reportedly sent staffers to Australia and back to study jet lag before settling on preparing at home and riding adrenaline through the game — a similar formula to how they handled last year’s London trip against the Jaguars. The 49ers, by contrast, are arriving a full week early to acclimate.Adding another layer of uncertainty is the status of star receiver Puka Nacua, who could face league discipline stemming from off-field incidents last New Year’s Eve.
