Oregon football wrapped up its sixth practice of the 2026 season on Aug. 11 and the only part of coach Dan Lanning beginning to wear down is his voice, which was raspy from an afternoon of “encouraging” his players.”It’s that time of year,” he said with a smile.Other than that, Lanning is thrilled to be in the thick of fall camp as the Ducks prepare for the Sept. 5 opener against Boise State.”I love being on the grass, man,” Lanning said. “I love seeing guys that make a mistake one day, they come out and fix a mistake the next day. A guy that pushes a little bit harder and fights his way through practice because it’s taxing. You know, the growth moments.”Here’s what else Dan Lanning said Tuesday.Lanning on how quarterback Dylan Raiola is handling his new roleDante Moore is the unquestioned starter at quarterback for Oregon, but the Ducks also have one of the most experienced backups in Dylan Raiola, a former highly regarded recruit who started 22 games in two seasons at Nebraska, including all 13 as a freshman in 2024.When Raiola transferred to Oregon over the winter, there were questions about how the former starter would handle his new role as a reserve.Turns out, just fine. “He’s been an unbelievable teammate. He’s been a great teammate for Dante (Moore), a great guy to have in the room,” Lanning said. “I’m really excited to see what he can do and let the play speak for itself. But he’s getting better every day. I’m really proud of his progress.”He’s also been keeping Moore on his toes since camp began.”The last few days of practice, the guy’s thrown some dimes,” Lanning said.Lanning looks ahead to first scrimmage of fall campThe Ducks will break from their daily practice routine on Saturday when they hold the first intersquad scrimmage of fall camp.”We’re not there yet, so I’m really worried about tomorrow’s practice,” Lanning said. “But when we get to that point, it’ll be fun to see our guys go out there and compete, tackle.”The Ducks started practicing in pads this week so there has been contact and some physicality during drills, but it’s nothing compared to the real thing, Lanning said.”With some of these stud drills, you get a false sense of if we’re a good tackling team,” he said. “When you actually take guys to the ground and challenge yourself for that aspect, I think it puts us in position to be a lot better and really evaluate, are we a team that can break tackles, are we a team that can make tackles?”Lanning said Brayden Platt will be out for a whileInside linebacker Brayden Platt is still sidelined from a undisclosed injury with Lanning unwilling to put a time on his return. The redshirt sophomore was hurt in spring and didn’t play in the spring game April 25.”He’s going to be limited for a while,” Lanning said. “With the injury that he (had) in the spring, I don’t want to put a timetable on it, but he’s going to be out for some time.”Platt played in a reserve role and on special teams the past two seasons.
