​The MLB trade line has come and gone, and for the Tampa Bay Rays, it is mostly seen as a success. While the team leads the American League, the New York Yankees, Erik Neander, and the race for an office made four roster-bolstering changes before Monday’s deadline. On today’s Rays Roundtable, the staff discuss all four trades completed this week by Tampa Bay and give our grades and initial reactions on each one. Rays Acquired SP Freddy Peralta from the New York Mets.Michael Brauner: Giving up three top-30 prospects for two months of a guy who has not performed this year is a risk, but Tampa Bay took a swing on a pitcher who was a legit ace in 2025 and will try to get him back to that. Grade: B+Zac Blackerby: Makes sense. They needed another arm. I think this checks several boxes. Grade: AChristian Rauh: This could be the best trade or one that never matters. It’s a low-risk, high-reward for a pitcher that has struggled this season, but obviously has ‘ace’ material. If he shows any of that down the stretch where he can be a proven starter in a postseason game, it’s a win. Grade: BTampa Bay Acquired C Liam Hicks from Miami Marlins for 3 Prospects MB: Love that not only did they acquire a quality catcher, but they also kept him away from the Yankees who desperately needed one. The team control makes it even better. Grade: A-ZB: Favorite addition from the day. Didn’t give up much and the offense gets better. Grade: A+CR: Easily the best trade of the week for the Rays. Although they were rumored to be chasing other top catching candidates that never moved, Tampa Bay made a big enough splash in the power department, which was much needed at this position. The years of control are also huge for a club that will be dealing with contract extensions on some of their stars very soon. Grade A+Rays acquired RP Taylor Wells from the Baltimore Orioles for Prospect pitcher Michael Forret. MB: My favorite move of the day. Wells gives the Rays serious bullpen stability and another year in 2027 without a significant return. Grade: A+ZB: I like it. Just want to see more before I move this up to a higher grade. Grade: BCR: Wells is outstanding against left-handed hitting and will provide Kevin Cash with almost a high-leverage specialist if needed down the stretch. In the meantime, him being able to carry the load with both Kevin Kelly and Bryan Baker helps shorten games for the rotation. Grade: A-Tampa Bay Acquired OF Jack Suwinski from Los Angeles Dodgers for C Hunter FeducciaMB: No real strong thoughts here, depth piece for depth piece. Worth keeping an eye on moving forward. Grade: C+ZB: Any time someone does a deal with the Dodgers, I always ask myself, how did they just get fleeced? Grade: CCR: This is the classic “change of scenery” trade from both teams. It’s likely after the Hick trade that Feduccia might have been optioned or DFA’d. Making this trade was smart and provides some more outfield depth from a hot Triple-A bat in Suwinski. Grade: C+
