​Over five preseason practices, Texas A&M’s 2026 running back room has looked much improved, especially redshirt junior Rueben Owens, who, after rushing for a career-high 639 yards and five touchdowns last season, took full accountability for his mistakes last season, which included several drops that contributed to the Aggies’ losses to Texas and Miami in the first round of the CFP.However, rising sophomore Jamarion Morrow continues to look like the best one-cut running back on the roster, showcasing his impressive upfield burst and physicality after contact during the Maroon & White Game. While Owens and Morrow will continue to duke it out for the starting job over the next two weeks, Owens currently holds all the cards and has yet to disappoint those of us in the media.Looking at the rest of A&M’s running back room, former five-star freshman KJ Edwards made some noise during Saturday’s practice, and while he is certainly talented enough to see the field this season, redshirt freshman Tiger Riden Jr. has reportedly performed well, and is by far the team’s best blocking back, and at 5’10” and 219 pounds, is the biggest running back on the roster.On Tuesday, new OC Holmon Wiggins, when asked about the running back stable, discussed Riden’s road back from injury and his powerful running style that should come in handy this season.”We’ve been getting some stuff from Tiger Riden, who was a guy that, in my opinion, shocked me coming in because we didn’t see much of him in fall camp, a couple of injuries kind of held him out and now you get a chance to see him. He’s a big, powerful guy that gives us a little different dimension, a little chaneup as a big back.”The Aggies desperately need more physicality from every running back who sees the field next season, especially playing behind four new starters along the offensive line. While Wiggins will utilize his elite wide receiver rotation, establishing the run early in games will be vital, and Tiger Riden could play a significant part in that plan.
