That the Detroit Red Wings would like Dylan Larkin to stay on the team – he’s their top center, after all, and a valuable asset, hasn’t changed since Larkin asked to be traded half a year ago.”We would like him to stay but he wants to go to another team,” Devellano, an alternate governor and executive with the organization, told the Free Press on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Devellano added, “big credit to Larkin, for still playing for us. He is a good guy.” Appearing on the John Keating and Chris Osgood podcast released overnight Wednesday, Devellano said the franchise and Larkin have come to an understanding over Larkin’s trade request this summer and “we’ve kinda kissed and made up.””As I’ve said to Dylan personally, let bygones be bygones,” Devellano said on the podcast. “You’re a good player. We really would like you to stay.”The Wings have gone out of their way to make Larkin comfortable, including telling him he did not have to be on the bench for opening night introductions (he was soundly booed by fans at Little Caesars Arena) or go to a sponsors event the week before the season began. Larkin showed up for both. But he still wants out. People within the league who have close knowledge of the situation say the request has not been rescinded, and Larkin has not said anything publicly about making up, either.Larkin has recently expanded his list of desired destinations. On Tuesday, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Free Press that Larkin’s list consists of 10 teams: the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, Utah Mammoth, Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche. None are in Canada.Larkin, 30, is in Year 4 of an eight-year deal signed in 2023 with an $8.7 million salary cap hit – a friendly deal to teams with contract numbers rising. He’s the godfather of hockey in Detroit. Jim Devellano isn’t running the Red Wings anymore but he has knowledge from the inside. Who knows if/when the Wings move Dylan Larkin to another team?
