Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Greene is slated to be activated from the 60-day injured list and make his season debut Saturday night against the Baltimore Orioles. Greene’s return strengthens a Reds rotation that also features 23-year-old Chase Burns, who owns a 10-1 record and a 2.40 ERA across 17 starts this season. The Reds sit in last place in the NL Central with a 40-46 record as they enter a three-game weekend set with Baltimore, but remain hopeful of rebounding into the wild-card race. “You’ve seen our team and other teams get really hot,” Greene said. “That’s our mindset. I’m confident that I’ll be a really good asset to that full picture.” The 26-year-old All-Star from 2024 has been on the IL since March 23 after elbow bone chip removal surgery. Despite a history of limited starts in his four major league seasons, Greene has resumed throwing at high velocity, with a fastball peaking at 101 mph after completing three minor league rehab starts, including two at Triple-A Louisville, where he went 1-0 with 13 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings. In his final rehab outing, he threw 82 pitches over 6 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and recording four strikeouts. Reds manager Terry Francona said Friday that he does not plan to cap Greene’s workload, noting that Greene is healthy, stretched out, and ready to contribute with production, not just a return. Last season, Greene went 7-4 with a 2.76 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 107 2/3 innings across 2025, despite two IL stints due to a right groin strain. Across his Reds career, Greene is 25-29 with a 3.65 ERA and 617 strikeouts in 495 2/3 innings over 91 starts.
