Report: Inter has joined Juve’s chase for Jhon Lucumí

By admin — In News — July 9, 2026

Juventus has long needed upgrades across the squad, and this season the focus remains on strengthening the center-back position. As the transfer window opens, Juve have been linked with several top defensive targets, including former academy prospect Tarek Muharemovic. Yet another name who has emerged in conversations around Juve’s plans is Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí, a Colombia international who is beginning to draw interest from a broader pool of clubs. This increased attention comes as Lucumí continues to build his reputation in Serie A.
Lucumí has been a reliable presence for Bologna since arriving from Genk in 2023, featuring in 123 league games and contributing in 17 European fixtures over the past two seasons. His durability and consistency have kept him on Juve’s radar, and he has frequently been a thorn in Juventus’ side, notably giving Dusan Vlahović headaches during head-to-head duels. His profile rose further at the World Cup, where Colombia were eliminated on penalties by Switzerland. That performance, commented on by veteran transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà, has amplified interest from several clubs, including Inter Milan, the reigning Italian champions who are rebuilding their backline after the departure of aging stalwarts Francesco Acerbi and Stefan De Vrij.
Typically, a standout World Cup showing can ignite a bidding war, especially for a defender with Lucumí’s versatility and potential. Juve, facing financial constraints, would normally worry about competition from Inter, Besiktas, and even Premier League contenders such as Bournemouth, who would offer strong wage packages and, in some cases, a setback with the absence of Champions League football. However, Lucumí presents a more favorable scenario for a summer move. He is entering the final year of his Bologna contract, with a release clause set at €28 million. This release clause levels the playing field in terms of transfer fee, offering Juve a realistic chance to secure his services without an inflated price tag.
Despite the more favorable economics, Juve still faces competition from other clubs that can offer higher salaries or the prestige of playing in Europe’s top competitions. Premier League teams could be willing to match or exceed Juve’s offer financially, and the absence of Champions League football can deter some potential suitors. Yet transfer negotiations often hinge on the personal appeal a club can make to a player. If Juventus can present a compelling case—emphasizing project stability, a clear pathway to regular first-team football, and a strong long-term role within a rebuilding squad—they could tip the balance in their favor and secure Lucumí’s signature.
As the summer unfolds, the chase for Lucumí is unlikely to lose momentum. Bologna’s bargaining power is constrained by the release clause, particularly now that the World Cup spotlight has faded and the transfer market has restarted. With Lucumí heading into the final year of his deal, a swift resolution could be on the horizon. For Juventus, the opportunity to add a versatile, experienced center-back who has proven his worth in Serie A is tantalizing, and their ability to present a clear, persuasive case to the 28-year-old could determine the outcome of this pursuit. Stay tuned as this story develops, with more updates likely to emerge as clubs evaluate their options ahead of the new season.
