Report: Kyle Shanahan quietly signed contract extension with 49ers

   ​On the heels of San Francisco’s dominant victory over the Rams in Australia comes some news about their head coach. Per Tom Pelissero of Netflix, the 49ers quietly signed Kyle Shanahan to a contract extension during the offseason. Shanahan’s previous contract was believed to be through the 2027 season. While terms of Shanahan’s new deal were not disclosed, he is set to continue with the franchise for more years to come.Hired in 2017 after a two-year stint as Atlanta’s offensive coordinator, Shanahan is closing in on George Seifert’s mark as the team’s all-time winningest coach at 108 victories. Shanahan now has 92 regular season and postseason victories over his 10 seasons, which is 10 behind Hall of Famer Bill Walsh.The 49ers have won two NFC Championships under Shanahan in 2019 and 2023, falling to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl each time.Despite a rash of injuries last season, the 49ers still managed to go 12-5 and win a postseason game.After getting back from Australia, the 1-0 49ers will host the Dolphins next Sunday.
