​Although the Memphis Grizzlies have been busy via trade this offseason and reportedly remain active on the trade market, one player who appears likely to stay put is veteran forward Jerami Grant.Grant was already traded once this offseason as the Grizzlies acquired him from the Portland Trail Blazers, and according to Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports, Memphis has “no plans” to trade the 32-year-old this year.”One thing not expected: A trade of veteran forward Jerami Grant, who arrived from Portland in the Ja Morant trade and is under contract for $34 million this year, with a $36 million player option next year,” Deveney wrote.”The Grizzlies have no plans to trade Grant, at least not this year. The hope is that he can provide a veteran presence for the wave of young players on the roster, and could be moved next year.”As Deveney noted, Grant is under contract for the 2026-27 season at roughly $34 million. He then has a player option for the following season worth about $36 million. If he ends up opting into his deal, perhaps he will emerge as a trade candidate next offseason.But for now, it sounds like he is part of Memphis’ vision. He certainly has enough experience to serve as a veteran voice for a young Grizzlies team, as he’s entering his 13th season in the NBA and has already played for five different teams (the Grizzlies will be his sixth).He also brings some solid production to the table. Last season with the Trail Blazers, he averaged 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from beyond the arc. Earlier in his Portland tenure, he had two seasons in which he averaged 20+ points per game, something he also accomplished once with the Detroit Pistons.And if the Grizzlies find themselves in the mix for perhaps a play-in bid this coming season — which would certainly be a fantastic and somewhat unexpected outcome — Grant should be able to help them navigate big games, as he has a lot of postseason experience. He has appeared in 40 playoff games during his NBA career.Even being in contention for a play-in spot would be something worth celebrating for the Grizzlies this coming season as they turn the page on a new chapter headlined by incoming rookie Cameron Boozer. Higher expectations will come in due time for Memphis, but the 2026-27 campaign may be more of a transition into a new era. Boozer, for as NBA-ready as he may be, should benefit from being around a veteran like Grant, as will others on the roster. The journeyman could ultimately end up getting moved by Memphis down the line, but it doesn’t sound like he’s going anywhere right now.The Grizzlies are still a team to watch in other trades, however, as they navigate their roster crunch.
