From the outset of free agency, the Golden State Warriors have been tied to a flurry of potential targets. The centerpiece of the speculation centered on their supposed interest in LeBron James, but the Warriors have also been linked to a number of other players since the start of the summer, including Rui Hachimura. According to Mark Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Warriors and Hachimura had at least some level of dialogue during the offseason. Nevertheless, the former Los Angeles Lakers forward chose to stay in Southern California rather than relocate to the Bay Area.
Shams Charania of ESPN reported that Hachimura is set to sign a two-year, $28 million contract to join the Los Angeles Clippers. In the meantime, the Warriors have remained relatively quiet as free agency has unfolded, opting to re-sign a few key pieces from their own roster, including Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and De’Anthony Melton.
As the Clippers undergo a rebuilding phase following the trade of Kawhi Leonard, Hachimura will join a young and evolving core in Los Angeles that includes Darius Garland, Brandon Ingram, Bennedict Mathurin, and rookie Keaton Wagler. The landscape of this offseason continues to shift as teams around the league adjust and reconfigure their rosters in pursuit of better results on the court.
