​After Quinten Post signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, the Golden State Warriors reportedly determined how to respond to the restricted free agent’s offer sheet. With Post designated as a restricted free agent, the Warriors had a window to match Memphis’s offer to retain the Dutch center in Golden State for the foreseeable future. However, the Warriors decided not to match the Grizzlies’ deal, effectively ending Post’s time with the franchise, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater. Slater reported that Golden State chose not to exercise its right of first refusal on Post’s contract from Memphis.
Cited by Slater via X (formerly Twitter), ESPN’s Bobby Marks noted that this development marks the first time since 2020 that an offer sheet worth $5 million or more has not been matched. Post began his NBA career with the Warriors after being selected in the second round of the 2024 draft at No. 52 out of Boston College. He spent his first two seasons in San Francisco, appearing in 109 regular-season games and starting 49 of them. In the most recent season, Post put up averages of 7.7 points on 44 percent shooting from the field and 33.6 percent from three-point range, along with four rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest.
With Post now heading to Memphis, he will join a revamped frontcourt that includes Zach Edey and first-round pick Cam Boozer, following last season’s trade of standout big man Jaren Jackson. The move places the Warriors in a position where they must reassess their frontcourt rotation. Golden State currently features three veterans at the five and four spots: Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, and Draymond Green, who remains a free agent but is expected to re-sign with the Warriors. Post logged an average of 17.3 minutes per game last season. If Porzingis remains in the lineup, his minutes could cut into Post’s role, potentially prompting the Warriors to pursue another center in free agency. Alternatively, they might explore internal options such as Graham Ike, Lachlin Olbrich, or Charles Bassey.
