Retired Panthers QB could join Cowboys as coach

Now-former Carolina Panthers quarterback Will Grier may have his next opportunity already lined up.On Wednesday, Carolina officially announced that they have placed the 31-year-old passer on the reserve/retired list. The move put a rather quick end to Grier’s second stint with the Panthers, who selected the Davidson, N.C. native in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBut before rejoining the Panthers this past spring, Grier—according to a piece from Joe Person of The Athletic back in June—had an offer to join the Dallas Cowboys’ coaching staff. Person interviewed Grier’s father, Chad—who said the following of the opportunity:“Man, there’s not a huge chance you’re gonna play (in Carolina) this year. But there’s zero chance you get to play if you’re coaching. So I would say you stay in that league as a player as long as you possibly can. You have the rest of your life to coach.”Grier also had two go-rounds in Dallas, one from 2021 to 2022 and the second from 2024 to 2025. While he did not appear in a single regular-season game since his rookie campaign in Carolina, he apparently made quite an impression on Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer. So, we could still see Grier back on an NFL sideline here in 2026.Follow @ThePanthersWire on Twitter/X for more Panthers content. This article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Retired Panthers QB could join Cowboys as coach
