Riley runs through ‘Dogs defense, Fresno State falls in Milk Can Rivalry

A legen-dairy rivalry descended into udder chaos on Saturday night but in the end, the Broncos took back the Milk Can for the first time since 2022 with a 38-31 win.The Bulldogs wasted no time getting the offense going, scoring the first opening drive touchdown of the 2026 season on an efficient drive capped off by an eight-yard Jayden Mandal scramble across the line to get Fresno State on the board first, 7-0.The Broncos were eager to do the ‘Dogs one better. It took the nation’s leading rusher just two carries to find the endzone, with Boise State’s Dylan Riley finding a crease for a 72-yard touchdown. A two-point conversion gave the Broncos the lead right back. Then the quarterbacks went to work, though maybe not the two we expected. Maddux Madsen connected with Terrious Favors to stretch the Broncos lead to eight. Then, on the ensuing drive, Matt Entz turned some heads.Maryland transfer Khristian Martin entered, taking to the air for the first time since Sacramento State and making an immediate impact. Martin hit Ezekiel Avit and let him do the rest with a 59-yard catch-and-run to draw closer, 15-13 after a failed two-point conversion attempt. The first quarter fireworks fizzled out for a bit, but mostly because the Broncos decided to do what they do best: ground and pound.Riley and the Broncos turned an 18-play, eight-minute drive into points with a two-yard touchdown run from Sire Gaines to go up nine.Although the Bulldogs refused to go into the half without an answer, with Mandal leading a scoring drive capped off with Avit’s second touchdown reception of the night on a 10-yard slant. The Broncos took a 22-20 lead into the halftime break.Boise State mirrored that approach in the second half, pounding the rock and draining the clock. A 14-play drive spanning nearly eight minutes wilted the third quarter away as the Broncos entered the fourth quarter with an eight-point lead. However, the dagger seemingly came a few minutes later. Madsen connected with Riley across the middle and Riley took it home for a 44-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 15.The Bulldogs didn’t back down, as Mandal came right back down the field, placing a beautiful ball to Gavin Correia and a perfectly placed two-point conversion on the out route to Jahlil McClain. After trading field goals, it all came down to the onside kick, which Boise State recovered with ease, icing the game.Fresno State falls to 1-1 in conference play and now plays catch-up in the Pac-12 race, with Oregon State and the Broncos alone at the top at 2-0.
