Robinson ‘not surprised’ by Healy’s Shelbourne links

Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson believes Linfield boss David Healy has real potential to move up in management, amid ongoing links with the vacant Shelbourne post. Healy, who has steered Linfield since 2015, has overseen a remarkable period of success, collecting six league titles, two Irish Cups and four League Cups over his decade in charge. Reports have suggested he has held discussions with Shelbourne about replacing Joey O’Brien, who was dismissed in June, though Healy has not commented publicly since Linfield’s 2-0 pre-season defeat to the Dons at Windsor Park.
Robinson, speaking to BBC Sport Northern Ireland, said he believes Healy is ready to take the next step in his managerial career if he decides to pursue opportunities elsewhere. “Linfield fans won’t thank me for saying this, but I genuinely believe David definitely has the potential to step up in the managerial world,” Robinson stated. “He has done brilliantly here, winning every trophy going, so I’m not surprised by the rumours surrounding his future.”
Shelbourne are preparing to begin their European campaign with a UEFA Conference League tie on Thursday, July 23. Ironically, their potential opponents include the winner of the tie between Nomme Kalju and Healy’s Linfield. Nomme Kalju hold a slender 1-0 lead heading into the second leg, which will be played in Belfast on Thursday.
Healy, a former Northern Ireland striker, has been a long-standing figure at Linfield, guiding the club through a trophy-laden era. His success with Linfield has elevated his profile as a managerial figure who could step into a higher level of competition if he chooses to move on from the Blues. While no formal confirmation has emerged regarding Shelbourne’s interest, the mere possibility has sparked discussion about Healy’s future and the potential impact on Linfield’s plans in the seasons ahead.
