​As much as the Colorado Rockies were looking to avoid it, the 100th loss mark was reached on Tuesday night at Coors Field.The Arizona Diamondbacks scored seven total runs off of Rockies starter Kyle Freeland and reliever Zach Agnos en route to a 7-2 victory. The win helps the Diamondbacks continue to stay right in the thick of the National League playoff race.Colorado didn’t want this to happen again with another century-mark season of defeats. But the team just was not able to avoid it.Tough outing for Kyle FreelandFreeland went three innings, giving up nine hits, five earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts. Agnos worked four innings, surrendered three hits, two earned runs, one walk, one strikeout, and gave up a home run.The Rockies scored their lone two runs in the bottom of the third inning on Mickey Moniak’s 23rd home run this season and a sacrifice fly from Connor Norby.Arizona’s Nolan Arenado hit his 28th home run this season as the D-backs got ahead early and often on Freeland. It was a tough way for Freeland to lose as his future with the Rockies remains up in the air at this time. Moniak, Cole Carrigg, and Troy Johnston were the only Colorado hitters to get a hit against Diamondbacks pitching. They went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and left four total runners on base.Nevertheless, those potential scoring situations that happened with a few runners on did not materialize. The Rockies needed to pretty much win out to not reach 100 losses. Fans showed up at Coors Field for RockiesCoors Field held 19,324 fans in attendance on Tuesday night. Many of them had hoped the Rockies would finish with a better record than they did last season. Well, they will accomplish that feat and end up with more wins than in 2025.It’s pretty tough to stay faithful and cheering on a team that has not been on a winning streak lately. Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer, despite the tough record, has done some good work with his players.Look at what Carrigg, TJ Rumfield, Hunter Goodman, Moniak, Jake McCarthy, and other Colorado players have done this season. Carrigg and McCarthy have been sparkplugs in the outfield, along with Rumfield.Goodman has been the main home run hitter for the Rockies. Now, let’s see if Rockies president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes can build a solid nucleus around Goodman going into 2027.Fans will have to look ahead and hope next season’s Rockies can break the 100-loss streak. Of course, the potential of an MLB lockout hangs not only over Colorado but all MLB teams.
