Rewritten: Right-hander Domingo Acevedo, a three-year major league veteran who has been pitching this season with Colorado’s Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, received an 80-game suspension on Wednesday after testing positive for the performance-enhancing substance Stanozolol under the minor league drug program. Acevedo, 32, began the season with Piratas de Campeche in Mexico and later signed a minor league contract with Colorado on May 1. Through six starts and two relief appearances for Albuquerque, he has posted an overall record of 2-0 with a 5.81 ERA. In his major league career, Acevedo was 4-4 with a 4.09 ERA in 89 relief appearances for Oakland from 2021 through 2023 before he was released.
Acevedo’s sanction marks him as the eighth player this year to receive a penalty for a drug violation. By contrast, Atlanta outfielder Jurickson Profar was suspended for the entire season on March 3 after testing positive for exogenous testosterone and its metabolites; this was Profar’s second offense under the drug rules. Earlier, free agent outfielder Max Kepler was banned for 80 games on January 9 following a positive test for Epitrenbolone. Kepler later signed with Arizona and returned to the major leagues on June 26.
