CLOUD, MN — In just under an hour of real time, Rocori went from lining up for the first serve of the match against Apollo to packing up equipment and heading to the busses.It was never truly a competition.The Spartans swept the Eagles easily: 25-8, 25-3, 25-4.Apollo came into the match with 32 straight losses and a 6-85 record since the turn of the decade. Coach Heidi Willenbring had never coached such a one-sided match before, ensuring her players would still come out and compete.“Whether they’re good or not, we still have to come out and play our game,” Willenbring said. “We need to keep working on our momentum to keep going to the next level. Whether the team we’re playing is at our level [or not], we’re going to play above because we need to keep getting ready for our next competition.”With the context of the match, Willenbring was able to shuffle lineups around a bit and try girls out in spots that they otherwise would not be playing. Highlighting senior defensive specialist Ava Viere in particular, who went in to play right side and got a kill for the last point of the game.Junior outside hitter Brynn Lommel and sophomore setter Eliett Satterstrom had the first two set-winning points for Rocori.The sweep marks the seventh consecutive victory over Apollo, moving the record to 22-3 in favor of the Spartans dating back to 2007.Exclusive: Meet the future medical professional and D-I recruit leading Becker footballRocori is not building towards something special this year, though. After handing Sauk Rapids its first loss of the season with a strong 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-23. 25-18) showing  just a day prior, the Spartans have serious momentum building for the rest of the season.“They play hard for me; they got grit,” Willenbring said. “They don’t give up, they communicate, help each other out and if they make a mistake no one gets frustrated. They have goals for this season, so they’re going to keep working hard just to get to that next level.
