Roma ready to submit offer for Diego Moreira as Chelsea watch from afar

Reports out of Italy claim Roma are prepared to bid around €30 million for Strasbourg winger Diego Moreira, though the French club’s asking price appears to be considerably higher. According to Sky Sport Italia and Sport Mediaset, Roma’s proposed deal includes a 10% sell-on clause. The coverage notes that Roma are seeking attacking reinforcements for the 2026-27 season, with Moreira emerging as a potential solution after Mason Greenwood, their main target, is expected to join Fenerbahçe from Marseille. However, Sky indicates that striking a deal with Strasbourg will not be easy, due to the French side’s €50 million valuation.
The reports also highlight that Moreira’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is actively exploring a transfer structure that could persuade Strasbourg to part with the player. Moreira, a former Chelsea winger, moved to Strasbourg in 2024 and the Premier League club still holds a buy-back option that would allow them to match any offer Strasbourg receives. The Belgian international has also been mentioned in connection with the Belgian squad for the 2026 World Cup.
As the situation stands, Roma’s €30m bid would be a starting point, but the gap between the two clubs’ expectations means negotiations could be extended. Strasbourg’s €50m asking price stands as a significant hurdle, and it remains to be seen whether Roma’s offer—with a potential sell-on clause and strategic transfer structuring—can bridge the gap. Moreira, who has experience at the international level and has developed since leaving Chelsea for Strasbourg, would be a notable addition to Roma’s attack, had negotiations progress favorably.
In summary, Italian outlets report Roma’s interest in Moreira with a €30m bid and a 10% sell-on clause, while Strasbourg’s €50m valuation and Mendes’s involvement add complexity to any potential move. The outcome will depend on how flexible Strasbourg remains on price and whether Roma can present a formula that appeals to the French club, possibly leveraging the player’s market value, Mendes’s arrangements, and any strategic financing that could sweeten the deal.
