Roma want to close Summerville deal before weekend

With Greenwood out of the picture and Celik’s surprising pivot to Juventus rather than renewing with Roma, the Giallorossi must overhaul their approach to the transfer market. The opening phase of the window has been rocky; as of July 17, Roma hadn’t yet secured extensions or replacements for three players whose contracts were expiring, a move Gian Piero Gasperini had requested. The club now intends to accelerate its transfer activity and is not prepared to wait beyond this weekend for a definitive answer from Summerville. The Dutch winger is set to return to Europe today after a family vacation in Miami and will soon sit down with his representatives to map out his next steps.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the central issue for Roma remains Summerville’s salary demands. The player continues to seek €6 million per season, while the Giallorossi are unwilling to exceed €4.5 million plus add-ons. At Trigoria, the instruction is clear: maintain harmony within the squad. Gasperini needs time to integrate the new arrivals, so club management will not wait beyond next weekend, or at the latest Monday, to receive a concrete decision. If Summerville accepts Roma’s terms, D’Amico will travel to West Ham to finalize the transfer, with an investment of approximately €40 million for the 2001-born winger.
If Summerville rejects the terms, Roma will pivot to alternative targets. The club’s strategic aim is to preserve balance in the dressing room while continuing to build a competitive squad capable of contending on multiple fronts. The summertime plan hinges on swift clarity from Summerville and decisive action from Roma’s leadership. In parallel, Roma must also navigate the evolving market dynamics, ensuring that any acquisition aligns with the club’s long-term financial framework and sporting objectives. The coming days are pivotal as Roma seeks to avert a protracted stalemate and secure the winger who can contribute immediately while safeguarding the team’s locker-room cohesion and future prospects.
